Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson Officially Modify Son Tatum’s Last Name, Confirms US Weekly
In a recent legal development, Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson have successfully altered their son Tatum’s last name. The name change, confirmed by a report from US Weekly, was made through formal paperwork submitted earlier this year and was officially approved on Thursday, August 31. This information is based on court records obtained by the publication.
According to California law, parents are granted the right to choose whether their newborn will carry the mother’s or father’s last name, or a combination of both, at the time of birth.
Earlier in June, it was revealed that Tatum, who is now thirteen months old, initially had the Kardashian last name. The history of Kardashian and Thompson's relationship spans from 2016 to 2021, when they went through periods of being together and apart. The reality TV star publicly announced their separation in 2021 after Thompson's involvement with Maralee Nichols and the birth of their son, Theo.
The couple welcomed their second child, a son, in July 2022 through a surrogate. Thompson, who is also a father to Prince (6) and Theo (20 months) from previous relationships, co-parents with Kardashian for their five-year-old daughter, True.
After Tatum’s birth, the couple chose to keep his name undisclosed. During an appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show in April, Kardashian shared, "At first, I really didn't know what I was going to name him." She had intended to choose a name starting with the letter "T," similar to the names True and Tristan, but wanted to wait until meeting him before finalizing a decision. Kardashian humorously mentioned that initially, the child didn’t have a name. She expected to reveal the name during the premiere of their show but was surprised by the longer timeline.
The chosen name, Tatum, was eventually unveiled in a May episode of their show, highlighting the thought process behind naming a new life.
Months later, Kardashian and Thompson joined together to celebrate Tatum's first birthday with an elaborate outer space-themed party. Kardashian shared her heartfelt sentiments on Instagram, writing, "I am a firm believer that God gives you what you want and I wanted you." She expressed her admiration for Tatum's qualities and the happiness he brings into their lives.
She continued, "I'm so proud to be your mommy. So proud of the love and laughter we have in our house. So proud of your beautiful, gentle, loving, infectious spirit. You light up every single room." Kardashian acknowledged the joy Tatum brings to her other child, True, who is thrilled to have him as a sibling.
