Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have garnered a mixed global reputation. A group of devoted fans has even dubbed themselves the "Sussex squad," while others consistently criticize the couple, who have chosen to live in self-imposed exile. The spotlight frequently shines on the pair, though not always in a positive manner. Recent analysis of trends on TikTok has revealed a decline in popularity for the couple.

According to a report by the New York Post, which cites research from Hootsuite as featured in Newsweek, the online presence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was examined. Hootsuite, a social media management platform, was employed to dissect the trends surging across the internet. By analyzing TikTok's search data, it became evident that the younger generation is heavily influenced by the Sussex couple. Interestingly, the content on TikTok appears to lean towards negative aspects, particularly focusing on Meghan Markle.

Despite tags such as "divorce," "Prince Harry," "rude," and "narcissistic," the top-ranking videos portraying the Duchess were surprisingly positive. These videos, originating from the now-defunct Ellen DeGeneres daytime show, portrayed a favorable image of her. However, even tags associated with other esteemed members of the royal family lacked full favorability. Similar keywords were linked to both Kate Middleton and her perceived rival, Meghan Markle. Terms like "tennis," "rude," "paparazzi," and "coronation" were commonly associated with both figures on TikTok. Although users enjoy drawing comparisons between the two, there appears to be a preference for Kate Middleton, as observed by Eileen Kwok.

The dynamics of popularity within the once-famous "fab-four" continue to shift over time. Among the three royals - Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince William - they collectively garnered the highest number of posts on TikTok, with Kate Middleton having the fewest. Together, the top three generated a staggering 11 billion views, while Middleton followed closely with 10 billion.
